As we were fellowshiping on the need to have a pure heart before God and man, I was freshly enlightened to see my own need to be pure in heart. It has been from the impure ones that many problems have occurred in the church history. Especially, from gifted brothers who were full of ambition to be somebody among God’s children. The fact is, no one is born pure. It is the Lord’s mercy that we could be dealt with by Him to be pure in heart, single in purpose, knowing only to serve God by serving the church, the saints, as a slave. To have a pure heart requires a specific dealing from the Lord. This enlightenment burdened me to write this hymn as a prayer for a pure heart yesterday morning.
This matter of the need for pure in heart was further confirmed and strengthened by the Lord’s speaking personally to me in my time with Him while reading His word.
Mark 10:43-45 RecVer43. But it is not so among you; but whoever wants to become great among you shall be your servant,44. And whoever wants to be first among you shall be the slave of all.45. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.
Prayer: Pure in Heart
Tune: 1051 (I hear Thy welcome voice)
Meter: 6.6.8.6 with chorus
1
(Matt. 22:37; Matt. 22:30)
Lord, grant me a pure heart-
A heart that loves Thee Lord,
With all my heart, my soul, my strength,
With all my being, Lord.
Purify my heart,
Lord, I pray to Thee.
Wash me, cleanse me in Thy blood,
From all impurity.
2
(Matt. 5:8)
Lord, grant me a pure heart-
A heart single in goal,
E'er seeking to glorify God,
A pure heart that sees God.
3
(1 Pet. 1:22)
Lord, grant me a pure heart-
To love Thee with first love,
Love one another fervently,
With Thy love, as Thou love.
4
(2 Cor. 4:16; Eph. 4;23; Matt. 6:10)
Lord, grant me a pure heart-
A mind renewed daily,
A will to do Thy perfect will,
Emotion that loves Thee.
5
(Heb. 9:14; 10:22; 13:18; 1 Pet. 3:16, 21)
Lord, grant me a pure heart-
A conscience pure and good,
A conscience, cleansed, without offense,
Pure before man and God.
